stone men

stone men is a collection of poems that trace the arc of a woman’s life, the archetypal maid, mother, crone. Central to the work are poems based on the legend of Medusa, but interpreted within the framework of the Me Too movement, as a woman blamed for a crime where she was, in fact, the victim. Other poems deal with women who may have been demonised in male-focussed histories, and the processes and challenges of aging.

Naming the Sirens was a four woman show, produced by Joanna Preston. Performed by Marisa Capetta, Jeni Curtis, Gail Ingram, and Janet Wainscott at WORD Christchurch, 24 August, 2023, it featured poems from the collections of poems by these four women, published by Sudden Valley Press.
